President Mugabe Falls In Love, Gives Lady Flowers And Champagne

Theirs could be a page from a Jan Austen romantic novel - a sweet note here and a bouquet of flowers there, accompanied by a bottle of expensive bubbly.

91-year-old Zimbabwe president has fallen in love with 27-year-old Zahara. Returning from her trip in that country where she performed last week, Zahara boasted that the red carpet was rolled out when Mugabe sent her a welcome note, flowers and champagne when she arrived at the airport in Harare.

And this was not a once-off. It would seem that 'Uncle Bob' has a soft spot for our songbird.

"I don't know how many times I have been there. Every time I go, I enjoy it. He gives me a warm welcome. I met him for the first time last year. He even invited me to his office and told me that h loves Loliwe. Th other time he sent his minister to welcome me at the airport.... and I was meant to to go to his birthday party in 2014 but because of a gig I couldn't move, I failed to attend," Zahara revealed.

TK Nciza of TS Records, the company that represents Zahra, vouched for her.

"She gets invited to the presidential house at the president always has some good messages to give her. He tells her that she inspires the youth and encourages her to carry on singing. He also invites her to visit Zimbabwe more, because the people of Zimbabwe like her," said TK Nciza.

Nciza said Mugabe was fond of Africa and talks about it a lot.

"He seems to b a caring father. But over and above that, like all other liberation leaders, he will be respected for generations to come. It's not our place to comment on the criticism he gets but his legacy will never be forgotten in Zimbabwe and South Africa," he added.

Zahara's comeback album Country Girl, with the hit Imali, has already clocked double status (over 80,000 copies sold) in less than three months. Tomorrow night Zahara takes to the stage at this year's last edition of the Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz Festival at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

"I'm quite nervous about the show, hey. It's because there are hardcore music fans there who don't just come to dance but actually listen to the music," said Zahara.

Others on the bill are Sello Galane, Bongi Mthombeni and Schoolboy, with Hector Motau as MC. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are R400 per person and R4,000 for a table of 10.
