Zimbabwe may have to field two goalkeepers

Zimbabwe may have to field two goalkeepers in their 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Guinea in Conakry on Sunday!

Cash woes within the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) mean the 25-man delegation only left for Guinea on Friday, but could only manage to get 14 seats on the connecting flight to Conakry.

It was decided that coach Klaus Dieter Pagels and the team doctor would travel, along with a squad of 12 players that includes two goalkeepers. It was suggested the remaining 11 players would join them if they could find some seats, though those hopes are fading fast.

And now reports out of Nairobi on Saturday say one of the outfield players, who has not been named, has mislaid his passport and will not travel to Guinea, meaning one of AmaTuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi or his back-up Maxwell Nyamupangedengu may have to play as an outfield player if Zifa cannot find a way to get the rest of the squad to Conakry in time.

The team’s long journey takes them from Harare to Nairobi, Kenya, on to Dakar, Senegal and finally Conakry in Guinea.

The lack of seats is on the Dakar-Conakry route.
